Week Four Predictions

tyrod-reax-storyIn terms of predictions, last week has been my best of this young season as I fared very well both straight up and against the spread. For the majority of the league’s teams, the end of this weekend will bring an end to the season’s “first quarter”. At that mark it would be fair to start assessing what teams would need to do in order to have a shot at the playoffs. For instance, if you’re 3-1 through four games, playing above .500 ball the final 12 games in most years is a sure thing to guarantee a playoff spot. But then again, this is the NFL anything can happen. Heck, this time a year ago numerous analysts were calling the Patriots “done” as they sat 2-2 after a blowout loss in Kansas City. The quarter mark can be telling, but it certainly is not an end all be all for teams that are struggling.

Last week: 14-2, Season: 33-15

Last week against the spread: 11-5, Season: 27-21

Game of the weak: Jaguars vs Colts: For the dozen people into AFC South storylines, this could actually be an interesting one. The Colts have looked extremely vulnerable to this point and now could very well be without Andrew Luck (he’s supposed to be a game-time decision) in which case Matt Hasselbeck starts. Meanwhile the Jaguars have had their bumps and bruises through three games, but they’re a young and hungry group. Even with the Colts needing a win, this sort of gives me a trap game vibe.  Jaguars 20 Colts (-8.5) 27

Game of the week: Giants vs Bills: There one game that just jumps at you on the slate, but I found this one pretty compelling. A “Battle of New York”, the Giants go into Buffalo on ten days rest after notching a much needed win last Thursday night. Eli Manning and company now have to take on a Bills defense with plenty of playmakers and who in thanks to Tyrod Taylor have surprisingly had a very effective offense. With Rex Ryan as head coach, the Bills will certainly play with a chip on their shoulder. But how does that change as the hunters start becoming the hunted? Giants 20 Bills (-6.5) 27

Jets 20 Dolphins (+2.5) 17

Panthers 26 Buccaneers (+3.5) 20

Eagles 24 Redskins (+3.5) 20

Raiders 24 Bears (+3.5) 16

Texans 17 Falcons (-6.5) 24

Chiefs 23 Bengals (-3.5) 27

Browns 16 Chargers (-7.5) 27

Packers 34 49ers (+9.5) 23

Rams 17 Cardinals (-6.5) 26

Vikings 16 Broncos (-6.5) 23

Cowboys 20 Saints (-3.5) 26

Lions 14 Seahawks (-9.5) 27
