Tonight’s Thursday night game has the Kansas City Chiefs going on the road to play a division rival in the San Diego Chargers. Up to this point, the Thursday night games have actually been pretty decent but that could change here. Both teams have looked awful of late and even though it is very early both look to be fading out of contention.
With Brady Quinn injured, Matt Cassel will start this week. Of the two, Cassel is the one that gives them the best chance to win. In order to do that, the Chiefs need to get Jamaal Charles the ball early and often. Last Sunday Charles only saw five carries against the Raiders which isn’t nearly enough for a player of his caliber.
The play of Philip Rivers is once again becoming a big question. After four or five years of elite production, Rivers has really struggled since the 2011 season. There’s a chance he is playing hurt and nobody knows but regardless something is going on. Going up against a weak Chiefs run defense, Ryan Mathews should be involved early and often. He has yet to have a 100 yard game this season but there’s a good chance that changes tonight.
Overall, this game could be a tough one to watch but the Chargers have enough talent regardless of what’s been going on with Rivers to win. Prediction: Chiefs 16 Chargers(-7.5) 21
