Last week was another productive one for my fantasy surprises as Matt Moore and Michael Crabtree had very good games while BenJarvus Green-Ellis also had a solid fantasy performance. In many leagues, this is the first week of the playoffs and with injuries to so many key fantasy players, it is very important to play the matchups and choose either a player on your bench or the waiver wire that can produce this week.
QB: Carson Palmer vs Packers:
Palmer will be missing two of his best receivers in Denarius Moore and Jacoby Ford this week, but against the Packers he should be throwing the ball early and often. Palmer can be a bit turnover prone but even if he does that a few times should still have the makings of a nice fantasy performance. Expect around 240 yards and two touchdowns.
RB: C.J. Spiller vs Chargers:
In some leagues, Spiller can be started at either running back or receiver and either way he is worth at least a flex play. The Chargers got torched by Maurice Jones-Drew both through the air and on the ground last Monday night. While Jones-Drew is the superior running back, Spiller can do some of the same things and has a much better passing game around him. Expect around 110 total yards and a touchdown.
WR: Santana Moss vs Patriots:
Moss has always been known as an inconsistent fantasy play and he hasn’t done much of late but is worth starting this week. With Fred Davis suspended the rest of the year, Rex Grossman will be looking Moss’ way more often and he has a very favorable matchup against a beatable Patriots secondary. Expect around 80 yards and a touchdown.
TE: Kellen Winslow vs Jaguars:
Regardless of which Josh either Freeman or Johnson starts at quarterback for the Buccaneers, they will be looking Winslow’s way early and often. The Jaguars secondary has been decimated by injuries and even before that really struggled against tight ends. Expect around 70 yards and a touchdown.
K: Matt Bryant vs Panthers:
The Panthers defense isn’t nearly as strong as recent performances may indicate. Bryant should have plenty of opportunities this game which is all you can ask for in your kicker. Expect around three field goals and three extra points.
DEF: Seahawks vs Rams:
The Seahawks are available in many fantasy leagues this week but they are definitely worth starting this week. This is an underrated unit that had a strong performance last week against the Eagles and now faces the Rams who will be starting either Tom Brandstater or Kellen Clemens at quarterback. Unless you have a top flight defense, you should pick up the Seahawks this week. Expect around four sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
