Week Eight Fantasy Surprises

Last week Matt Cassel had a nice game while Marshawn Lynch and the 49ers defense were both solid performers. Dwayne Bowe, the Chiefs defense and Johnny Knox were mentioned at the bottom of the article also did well for their owners.

QB: Jon Kitna vs Jaguars

While he is only playing due to the much talked about broken clavicle of Tony Romo, Kitna has a very favorable matchup at home against the Jaguars pass defense. The Cowboys have their fair share of weapons so Kitna should be able to put together a nice game. Expect around 240 yards and two touchdowns.

RB: Fred Jackson vs Chiefs

Jackson is a very versatile player and with six teams on bye this week could be a very good option as a running back replacement. Even though the Bills could be playing from behind, Jackson is a very good receiver and should see his fair share of touches this game. Expect around 100 total yards and a touchdown.

WR: Dez Bryant vs Jaguars

Bryant had a punt return touchdown and two garbage time touchdown catches last game, but this should be his real coming out party. The Jaguars don’t have anyone to matchup with him so he could be in for a big game. Expect around 80 yards and a touchdown.

TE: Jacob Tamme vs Texans

For those who were wondering who Dallas Clark’s backup was, this is the guy. Tamme is making his first start against a very vulnerable Texans pass defense and should be a hot waiver wire commodity following the game. Expect around 60 yards and a touchdown.

K: Ryan Succop vs Bills

The Bills have allowed more than their share of points this season so Succop should see plenty of chances. Expect around three extra points and two field goals.

DEF: Patriots vs Vikings

The Patriots defense has been inconsistent this year but against either Brett Favre or Tarvaris Jackson they are a solid option even though Jackson starting could keep owners away from some helpful interception points. Expect around four sacks and two interceptions.

Other fantasy notes:

Now off their bye week, the Lions are fully healthy and this is great news for fantasy owners. Matthew Stafford is a great play this week and should be very valuable the rest of the way. This only increases the value of Calvin Johnson and Jahvid Best who have both appeared to be recovered from their nagging injuries. Brandon Pettigrew could also be a very good tight end play this week.

If he isn’t already taken in your league, Steve Johnson of the Bills is a receiver worth picking up. So far he has been one of the top receivers in all of fantasy football and with the Bills knack for playing from behind; he should see plenty of chances.

A player who should be in for a big week and could have a major impact the rest of the way is Beanie Wells.  He is now the starting running back for the Cardinals and while he hasn’t put up the numbers that were expected yet, a matchup this week against the Bucs run defense that ranks last in the league should help.
