Last week was a very good one for my fantasy surprises. Ryan Torain had a huge game while Mike Wallace had his fair share of success. Chris Ivory who I mentioned at the bottom of the article also had a big day. Before getting hurt it also seemed likely that Vince Young would have a big day throwing the ball.
QB: Matt Cassel vs Jaguars
Cassel took advantage of a struggling Texans pass defense last week and should continue to play well against a Jaguars secondary that has yet to find an identity. Expect around 210 passing yards and two touchdowns.
RB: Marshawn Lynch vs Cardinals
Lynch came in right away and got a big chunk of carries for the Seahawks. That should continue against a Cardinals defense that has struggled against the run. While his situation in Buffalo made him a player to approach with caution, Lynch is still a very talented back who should have a big impact the rest of the way. Expect around 110 total yards and a touchdown.
WR: Robert Meachem vs Browns
Meachem seemed to get back on track with Drew Brees last week and like Mike Wallace last week is a very good deep threat. He could be a little inconsistent when it comes to fantasy but this should be another big week for Meachem. Expect around 80 yards and a touchdown.
TE: Aaron Hernandez vs Chargers
Hernandez is one of the two talented rookie tight ends the Patriots have and should continue to see his targets go up with Randy Moss’ departure. He is a solid play against a Chargers unit that has been struggling as a whole. Expect around 60 yards and a touchdown.
K: David Akers vs Titans
With Kevin Kolb continuing to get more comfortable, Akers should only get more opportunities against a Titans defense that has struggled at times. Expect around two field goals and two extra points.
DEF: 49ers vs Panthers
Up until last week, the 49ers defense has struggled but they now play a Panthers offense that has been very poor in the passing game. Expect around three sacks and two interceptions.
Other fantasy notes:
While I only mentioned Matt Cassel in the beginning of the article, he is far from the only Chief using this week. Outside of the Chiefs running backs, Dwayne Bowe, Tony Moeaki, Ryan Succop and the Chiefs defense are all worth using in league’s this week.
Chris Ivory who was mentioned in this space last week has another favorable matchup against the Browns. If you are in need of a running back and Ivory is still available he is worth grabbing.
A player who could end have a very big week is Bears receiver Johnny Knox. The Redskins defense has allowed a ton of yards this year and with Knox’s big play ability, he should be able to take advantage.
